Alpinestars Tech 8 Motocross Boots Review
I’ve been riding motocross for over 10 years, and if I have not bought a product myself, I’ve always made sure that I’ve tried it out. I presently use Sidi Crossfire boots but before I was using Alpinestar Tech 8 Boots. The Tech 8′s are one of the most admired boots in the motocross industry, and if it wasn’t for the introduction of the Tech 10′s recently, then there is no doubt they would be 70% of most riders main choice of motocross boot.
All products from such a major manufacturer have first class quality attached, and the Alpinestar Tech 8 boots are no exception. The calf support is literally second to none, and with the kind of support that they offer, you know if you do have a serious collision; your body parts are well protected. The same goes for all other parts of the boot. The ankle area is very powerful, but still offers a great level of flexibility, so gear changing is not a problem. If you try the likes of the Alpinestar Tech 8 boots back to back with a cheaper boot like the Moose M1, then you will definitely feel the difference.
Of course, you do get precisely what you pay for, and these boots are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. A lot of retailers will ask a price in excess of $450 for the boots, but don’t let that put you off. This is the insurance against damage to everything below your knee, so in my eyes, is an extremely small price to pay to ensure that you keep in good health!
Alpinestars are known for being an very strong and durable boot. Previously though, the strong and sturdy design has led to lack of flexibility. The new design incorporates full grain leather and redesigned paneling which means flexibility has now been restored.
The straps and buckles have also been revamped. The new system will be inclusive of 4 aluminum buckles and features an extremely efficient ‘quick release’ system. This is something that was a clear problem on the earlier Tech 8’s.
The new TPU rubber gaiter at the top of the boot and the extended front inner gaiter help effectively seal out the elements and prevent water entry, while the breathable Cambrelle lining reduces the build up of heat. The white model features a new ventilation system positioned to increase air circulation.
The inner side of the boot is designed for exceptional contact and grip against the bike with a stamped Suede panel and provides a high level of support. The panel is laminated with aluminum foil to guard against heat.
Protection has been upgraded with
• New contoured shin plate protector which is injected with high modulus PU for a high level of impact and abrasion resistance. Additional holes increase ventilation.
• New expendable shock absorbing material on the shin and instep.
• Extended inside plate is injected with medium durometer PU and guards the side and toe-box area of the boot.
• New instep and Achilles flex zones for superior comfort, control and support.
• New contoured calf protector plate is injected with PU for high impact resistance.
• Patented “ankle brace” protector with additional shock absorbing insert for the heel.
• Stamped steel heel guard.
• Stainless steel sole guard
