As a mild mannered professional working at a law firm I rarely get the opportunity to break out into areas outside my comfort zone. However, I promised myself I would change this. At the outset, I decided to make a list of all things I wanted to do. Then I realized, this is exactly what I did not want to do. Make a list.

I leapt from my chair quickly seeking the nearest exit. After a brisk golf walk to the garage I secured myself in my SUV and decided to take in the open road. This was one of the things I yearned for: the open road. I recalled when driving was a novelty and how I enjoyed watching the pavement glide beneath the car. The windows would be open and I would enjoy the fresh air. This was what I yearned for.

I stopped at the red light and a man in a loud motorcycle stopped in the lane next to me. He was not the generic biker type. He was very well dressed with a leather jacket and boots that were very stylish. He seemed to be in very good shape but it was hard to tell his age as his face was covered with a black helmet. He had a passenger in the back. She also seemed to be quite attractive. She appeared to be wearing a similar outfit.

I suddenly knew what I yearned for: to ride a motorcycle. I had to test drive one at the very least. I figured I might even be able to get a weekend lease to see how I enjoyed the machine. I steered my auto directly home. As I slowly parked in the garage, I was confronted by my other failed attempts. For instance, a jet ski, fishing rods, and alpine skiing equipment. But this time it would be different. I went inside to look for a local dealer.

My conviction was strong. The main reason was that this was a more convenient outlet. I did not need a large body of water or ski slope in order to obtain this feeling. I could hop on my hog and take a ride. I could do this almost anytime I yearned for the open road. After find a business directory, I made a list of the local motorcycle shops. The first one I decided to go to was a domestic manufacturer with a strong reputation.

The salesperson at the store was very understanding even with my over inquisitive approach. He provided me with all the relevant details regarding the selection, options, and prices. He was very well dressed and donned a stylish men’s sport watch. I told him my goal was to experience the joy of the open road. He thought a low rider with a high handle bar would be the perfect solution. I was eager to take it for a ride. I inquired about renting or leasing the bike for a few days.

He apparently had received similar requests from previous customers. He knew where I was coming from. There were many people who wanted to enjoy the thrill and excitement of riding a motorcycle. However, making an immediate commitment can be difficult. There are other considerations such as spouse and relatives to account for. They had a weekend lease I could sign. I was set for the open road.
