Jarno Trulli’s Formula 1 Prospects for the 2010 Season
Italian Jarno Trulli began racing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship series in 1997. Over 13 years, he entered 219 Grand Prix events, won one race, and reached the podium 11 times. Although he never won a world championship in Formula 1, his ability to solve erratic performance and handling issues during the early stages of new car development is legendary.
Trulli placed first during the 2004 Monaco Grand Prix while driving for Renault-R24. It was the sixth race of a season dominated by Michael Schumacher. In 2004, Schumacher won 12 of 18 events while driving for Scuderia-Ferrari. After the race, Trulli retired to his motorhome rental for a well-deserved rest and reflection upon his career’s best performance. He finished the season ranked sixth in world standings.
Lotus-F1 signed Trulli for the 2010 Formula 1 season after Toyota withdrew from the premiere class at the end of 2009. Lotus-F1 is a new team formed by the Lotus factory, the Malaysian government, several Asian automobile racing associations, and a consortium of Asian automobile manufacturers. The Malaysian Grand Prix begins April 2, 2010 in Kuala Lumpur. Because of the diversified Asian ownership of Lotus-F1, expect dozens of Lotus-F1 motorhomes, RV’s, and Winnebagos rentals and new team trucks to fill the paddock weeks before the race begins.
The 2010 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, beginning July 9, 2010, is the first home-turf appearance of the new Lotus team. Fans who hope to attend the Silverstone event should begin reserving motorhome rentals and purchasing tickets immediately. The supply of available motorhome rentals disappears quickly before the annual event.
Trulli’s prospects for the 2010 Formula 1 season remain mixed. The combination of a new team and an unproven car seldom produces consistent wins. Last year, Trulli’s eighth place finish inspired all fans because of his Toyota’s persistent mechanical issues throughout the season. The new Lotus F1 prototype will undoubtedly need tweaking before becoming competitive. Trulli was the obvious best choice for such a daunting task.
Trulli began racing in 1991. He won the Formula K series his first season. He gained an additional championship title in 1996 driving in the German Formula Three series before moving up to Formula 1. Over his Formula 1 career, he drove for Minardi, Prost Gauloises Blondes, Gauloises Prost Peugeot, Benson & Hedges Jordan, Mild Seven Renault F1, Renault-R24, and Panasonic Toyota Racing. His experience developing and racing a wide range of diversified cars is unequalled by any other driver competing today.
