Nico Rosberg’s Formula 1 Prospects for the 2010 Season
German Nico Rosberg improved steadily over the last four years while competing for the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. He finished the 2009 season in seventh place with 34.5 overall points. The new Mercedes-GP team announced that Rosberg and former seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher will represent the team in 2010. Rosberg drove for Williams-Toyota previously.
The new Mercedes-GP team is the official factory representative of Mercedes-Benz. The renowned automaker returns to Formula 1 racing after a 55-year absence. Apparently, recent successes claimed by both Brawn-Mercedes and McLaren-Mercedes prompted the decision to compete for the world title. Last November, the factory purchased a 75% stake in Brawn-Mercedes after the team cinched the 2009 championship.
The German Grand Prix begins July 23, 2010 in Hockenheim, Germany. The popularity of Formula 1 racing in Germany always attracts record-setting crowds and a caravan of motorhome rentals. The upcoming event places two Mercedes teams and four drivers in head-to-head competition for national dominance.
Expect team trucks and motorhome rentals for crews to arrive immediately following the British Grand Prix at Silverstone that ends July 11, 2010. Fans who intend to witness the upcoming battle of titans should consider purchasing tickets and finalizing motorhome rentals now. By the time qualifying begins, parking space for fans who hire a motorhome may not be available. Consider arriving early to enjoy pre-race festivities.
Rosberg scored points in all but one race last year. His best race was during the German Grand Prix when he finished in forth place ahead of Jenson Button. As dedicated fans recall, Jenson Button won the 2009 world title. For 2010, Rosberg’s prospects remain high. Undoubtedly, full factory support and the addition of veteran world champion Schumacher to the team increase Rosberg’s chances for consistent podium finishes throughout the season.
The Hockenheim circuit is a notoriously fast. It is also the home track for Mercedes-Benz research, development and practice. Rosberg’s home-field advantage may prove decisive.
Rosberg began racing in 2001 at age 17 in the Formula BMW Junior Cup series. The following year he won the Formula BMW ADAC series championship as a professional. He then won his second championship in 2005 driving in the GP2 series.
As the son of Keke Rosberg, the 1982 Formula 1 world champion, racing is a family tradition. Today, at age 26, he is entering his most promising racing years. With the experience of nine seasons and Schumacher now at his side, he is poised for his best showing to date.
